Micro focus is the real treasure
i wrote about how fascinated i have become with focus and its cleansing effect, because i realize how resourceful it is and how difficult it is in practice. so few people are actually able to focus in a particular sense, and that’s why those that manage to do so stand out.
i’ve come to an even clearer understanding of how to focus. yes, at a macro and micro level, and the best way i can describe them is with examples. ˅
example (a)—macro focus: at this level let’s say i have multiple projects i’m working on, i can decide to focus on one by choosing one major project which i will prioritize and i don’t go do something else until i complete that project, no matter the temptation. this is focus at a macro level, in a larger and broader sense.
example (b)—-micro focus: at this level it really comes down to “tasks.” let’s say at the macro level i made the decision to focus on ‘project x,’ at this micro level let’s say i have a list of things i need to do to ensure the progress of project x. focus in this context is choosing my priorities on that list, and not moving on to any new additions, no matter the temptation, until i have completed the prioritized task on that list.
this might sound sensible, but in practice it is hard to do, especially when one is not “focused.” it can then be said that even at the micro level, if you have chosen to focus on certain tasks yet find yourself deviating to “other” tasks that differ from your selected priority, then you are not focused.
an unrelenting measure at of focus at any level is one’s ability to do exactly what they’ve assigned to themself to do without fail, without yielding to more interesting things, without submitting to the temptation of deviating from what is in front of them until their assigned ideal is accomplished.
