At some point in 2024, I made a decision to read a thousand books over the next decade, with the goal of achieving this by the end of 2034.
One major reason is, of course, that reading is a great mental exercise for keeping my brain healthy. But more importantly, it gives me the motivation to gradually build up my personal home library with books I'm genuinely interested in learning from and would love to have around for years to come.
It also helps me justify some of those niche book purchases I enjoy making and collecting.
Either way, there's really no downside to this goal. The worst that can happen is that I don't get to read all 1,000 books, but still end up reading a whole lot and learning so many new things along the way.
How delightful either way!
Books are some of the greatest inventions mankind has come up with to date. I feel honoured to have the opportunity to learn from all sorts of people and great minds, both dead and alive, through the knowledge and experiences they've preserved in writing.
